Squarespace Introduces Commerce for Squarespace 6
I love the Squarespace platform and it’s what I recommend to people when they ask me “where can I start a website”. They’ve got a very intuitive user interface, easy and simple drag and drop design options, and pretty much everything you’d ever need to start your own little corner of the web. Their servers are fast, almost always up, and the icing on the cake…Squarespace 6 also renders sites in HTML5, which means at lot of things, including scalablity for mobile.
Today Squarespace announced the launch of another big piece of their puzzle, Squarespace commerce. For just 30 bucks a month, you can sell digital and physical goods with as many skus as your heart desires. They partnered with Stripe for a payment gateway, which charges $0.30 + 2.9% for every completed transaction. It appears they’ve got tons of other cool inventory and cart control features along with google analytics conversion tracking too.
For me, the main reason I choose to use WordPress over Squarespace is that I have my very own IP address with my server. With Squarespace, you share an IP with thousands of other web sites. While SEO gurus will argue that having your own IP no longer matters, I still tend to disagree and have seen evidence to support my reasoning. You can get started with Squarespace for just $10 a month with no long term commitment. Good stuff.
