The Internet American Moratorium Act

Internet American Moratorium Act

The Internet American Moratorim Act is a drafted bill sponsored by Darrell Issa, a Republican Congressman from the 49th district of California, which is basically San Diego and Riverside counties.  Darrell is also the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.  On the surface, the idea of the bill is to prevent federal government interference with the internet for two years.  While it might sound like a good idea, there are apparently many underlying facets to this.  Most notably, it appears he is trying to prevent his party(or any party really), from making stupid mistakes prior to the 2014 mid term elections.   The more I tried to research his stances, the murkier things got for me.  Is he a wolf in sheep’s clothing with past attempts and appeasing critical voices of reddit ? As a supporter of CISPA and the Patriot Act, it looks like he’s got some ‘splaining to do for Reddit users tomorrow at 10:30 am EST.   At least he knows how to make a meme, which is more than can be said for most politicians.

With the UN trying desperately to be in control of our interwebs and Australian courts making tremendously stupid decisions regarding “the Google”, will The Internet American Moratorium Act net out as a win or a loss for our internet freedoms?  Only time will tell.
